HOWTO: Installing Jot+ Notes 3 Plugins

Installing new plugins into Jot+ Notes 3.0 is a fairly straightforward process:

Download the Plugin

Plugins for Jot+ Notes 3.0 can be downloaded from the main Jot+ Notes Files area. In future, other sites may distribute plugins.

Install the Plugin

Every plugin should be distributed with a setup application, that takes care of installing the plugin into the correct folder and performing any configuration required.

Make sure all instances of Jot+ Notes are closed before installing (or uninstalling) any plugin.

Load the Plugin

For security reasons, a new plugin will not be loaded by Jot+ Notes unless the user has specifically requested it; normally the plugin installer will ask the user for permission to load the plugin automatically.

To load a new plugin:

Select Tools | Plugins | Configure Plugins in Jot+ Notes.
In the Plugin Manager, select the plugin you wish to load.
The Status column for the plugin should say "Not Loaded". If it says "Loaded", you do not need to continue.
Click the Load button.
The plugin will be loaded and its commands added to Jot+ Notes. If the plugin loads correctly, its Status will change to "Loaded".
If you would like to configure the plugin, click Configure. Note that not all plugins have configurable options.
Click Close to dismiss the dialog.

Using the Plugin

Any new commands installed by the plugin are available via the Tools | Plugins submenu.

You can add these new commands to toolbars via the Tools | Toolbars | Customize command. You can also set or change a plugin command's shortcut key with the Tools | Customize Keyboard command.
